Album Review: George Michael – Live in Paris, 1988

Since breaking away from Wham! to forge a solo career, George Michael was hungry to make an indisputably positive statement with his first solo album, Faith. The album spawned a slew of radio hits and racked up industry awards, but nothing illustrates the legitimacy of talent like live performance.

Released to coincide with the concert film, George Michael: The Faith Tour, this two-disc soundtrack — recorded in Paris on the British superstar’s inaugural solo tour — demonstrates the full scope of the man’s significant gifts.

Be it on banger (“I Want Your Sex”) or ballad (“One More Try”), Wham! flashback (“Everything She Wants”) or well-chosen cover (“Love’s in Need of Love Today”), Michael sounds absolutely liberated. Commanding and impassioned, he effortlessly inhabits each song with exquisite, unmitigated soul. Highly recommended.
