In anticipation of her sophomore LP, Speak a Little Louder (S-Curve Records), singer/songwriter Diane Birch is offering the album's lead single, “All the Love You Got,” as a free download.
The new music comes four years after her critically-lauded debut, Bible Belt (which featured the retro-flavored “Nothing But a Miracle”), an album as striking for Birch’s songcraft as for her distinctively soulful phrasing and the naked, wrenching vulnerability with which she often imbued those performances.
Birch delivers the scorned-lover-be-damned narrative of “All the Love You Got” with vengeance enough to suggest perhaps some gutsier, rougher edges surround Speak a Little Louder, which is scheduled for release on October 15.
Made Up Mind, the forthcoming studio album by Tedeschi Trucks Band, isn't slated for release until August 20, but its lead single, “Part of Me,” is available now to stream or as a free download.
The follow-up to the group’s 2011 GRAMMY©-winning debut, Revelator—a live album, Everybody’s Talkin’, was released last year—Made Up Mind was produced by Jim Scott (Wilco, Chuck Prophet) and Derek Trucks, and features contributions from such guest artists as Sonya Kitchell and Doyle Bramhall II, among others.

Australian duo Big Scary bring a bit of New Wave minimalism to Post-Modern pop with "Falling Away," the lead single to their upcoming debut LP, Vacation, which is set for a U.S. release on September 18. Lead vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Tom Iansek and drummer/backing vocalist Joanna Syme construct a piano-versus-drums dichotomy throughout the song—think Night and Day-era Joe Jackson—alternating between a biting, insistent rhythm and strikingly lush, melodic passages.

Suckers for a catchy pop tune will have a hard time resisting "Sense," the beguiling lead single from 17-year-old Swedish ingénue Amanda Mair. In what sort of sounds like a cross between ELO and ABBA, she sings soft and lissome against a bouncy, head-bobbing rhythm in the verses which gives way to a lush, insatiable melody in the chorus.
Already a rising star in her native land, Mair is set to charm North America with the release of her eponymous debut album, June 5 on Labrador Records. With "Sense" she makes a fine first impression.
